Following the release of singles Take A While Longer and All Dressed Up, Boorloo singer, songwriter, producer & multi-instrumentalist Ash Digs has reached the next chapter on his cosmic musical journey, with the first EP of this new project, Tapes of You, out Monday May 22. Ash Digs is the artistic alias of Ash Hosken, who for over a decade established himself as a fixture on the local scene, releasing a number of acclaimed records while taking to stages and festivals all around town.

This first EP as Ash Digs sees Hosken exploring themes of truth and honesty from an emotional & relatable perspective, with the five tracks of the EP largely exploring the five stages of grief - denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Through exploring these themes, Ash found his voice both literally and metaphorically, with Ash Digs being his first forays into singing.

The most melancholic & personal music Hosken has crafted to date, Tapes of You was created in an organic and evolving manner, with nothing being forced but rather flowing freely over a two year period, with Ash writing and playing all parts on the EP at the fabled RADA studios, with acclaimed engineer and producer Dan Carroll on mixing duties.

Fusing elements from a wide range of genres and styles, Tapes of You retains Hosken’s knack for crafting groove laden beats, however the emphasis this time is on the rest of the sounds, with elements from indie, alt-rock, folk and blues meeting understated low slung electronica and downtempo vibes.

EP closer and focus track Lately provides a nice snapshot of the record as it rounds out the release in an uplifting & chilled manner after some of the more mellow sounds preceding it. Based on an old Diger Rokwell beat, psychedelic alt-country vibes meet hip-hop programming in an addictive blend. Being the closing track of the EP, Lately sees Ash take on the theme of acceptance, exploring the idea of the afterlife from a celestial perspective.
